The Bristol HiFi Show report

Stephen Harper – Audio Consultants - Sunday, March 02, 2014

Recently we supported two of our main suppliers at the Bristol HiFi Show – HiFi Networks and Epicurean Audio. It was a very busy three days with many visitors. On occasions there were people queuing outside the doors to these rooms.

The HiFi Networks room was majoring on Norma Audio REVO DS-1 digital source feeding into the Norma Audio REVO IPA-140 integrated amplifier together with ELAC BS-314 standmount speakers. Cable looms were from in-akustic made in Germany and is something we will be evaluating in the near future. Some of our Acustica Applicata DAADs were used to assist with the room acoustics. Many commented on how good the sound was from this set up, some suggesting one of the best sounds at the show.

Epicurean Audio was featuring amplification from the reference Edge Electronics company – the battery powered NL Signature 1.2 pre-amplifier and the NL 12.2 power amplifier. The speakers used were Avalon Transcendent all coupled with a full cable loom from the GutWire Audio and including their impressive range of high current power cords. The digital source was WAVE music files delivered through the newly released GutWire USBe cable. Room acoustics were controlled by a mixture of Acustica Applicata DAADs and Soften wall panels. The sound achieved was spectacularly fast, transparent and dynamic. Many were kind enough to deem this the best sound at the show.

Due to the extremely positive response to the sound in the Epicurean Audio room, we are planning to repeat the experience with this system under more controlled conditions. This will be in the Hilton Newbury North hotel towards the end of March. Further details will be sent out shortly.
