Equipment Supports
Isolating all the components in the audio chain, from sources to speakers, is most important in getting the best performance they are capable of.
When done correctly, this removes the negative effects of acoustic feedback, internal transformer vibrations, and de-coupling from the mass of the support. The result of this can be quite startling, with an increase in the size and depth of the image, more precise focus, and a more correct tonal balance. Rhythm is easier to follow and the listening experience becomes more real.
There are many products on the market, many of them designed to look smart but are badly thought through in acoustic terms and/or are made from materials that are detrimental to sounding natural. In our experience, undamped glass, random use of most metals, and marble, have no place in good sounding equipment supports.
Finite Elemente Pagode

Extremely well engineered systems, based on maple with extruded aluminium sections designed for low resonance. One of the best systems we have encountered in terms of sound and appearance.
The Pagode system is supplied in two grades, Signature and Master Reference, with a wide variety of sizes and shelf options available. Shelves can be adjusted in height in 30 mm increments. They are triple de-coupled for maximum isolation, and in the case of the Master Reference range, anti-resonance devices similar to tuning forks are incorporated. These are computer designed for each level in the rack and reduce the natural resonance of each shelf to a minimum.
Due to the current value of the pound versus the euro, costs can vary. Please phone for a quotaion and further details.

Audio Stands
This manufacturer makes probably the best equipment supports for high quality audio that we have heard. Based on their experiences in the military and space vehicle industry, the control of resonance and eliminating unwanted noise reveals the full potential of the equipment and indeed the music it is playing. The frame itself is manufactured from six different materials including billet-machined aircraft aluminium and exotic wood finishes over a composite inner frame structure. The highly acclaimed HRS isolation bases load directly into the MXR frame as the shelf system. This structure is designed for optimum isolation from structure borne vibration and the effective control of air borne resonances. The shelves are fully adjustable and the system is infinitely expandable protecting the initial investment.
The MXR range is the reference support system.
Example:
MXR-1719 3 tier frame £10,175; 4 tier £10,500. (See photo top)
(M3X-1719 Isolation Base £2125 each; see below)
We are privileged to be the first dealer in the UK with the new, more affordable SXR stands and S-1 platforms. Again, very much the HRS beneficial effect on sound at a reduced level but at more affordable prices. Being a modular design, it is infinitely expandable and extendable. We have this system in our showrooms now for viewing and evaluation.
Example:
SXR-1719 3 tier frame £3760; 4 tier £4725.
(S1-1719 Isolation Base £1595 each; see below)

Isolation Bases
These isolation bases have been highly acclaimed even when used with other manufacturers equipment supports and are especially beneficial under turntables and CD players. They are based on granite embedded in a one piece aluminium tray coupled by the HRS proprietary polymer. Underneath the aluminium platform are four round aluminium feet isolated from the platform with a special rubber like polymer. The load range of the platform is optimised to give maximum resonance control and 4 different grades of these feet are available. These can be changed easily if the equipment on these platforms changes.
By eliminating structure borne vibration and dumping chassis noise, usually emanating from the transformers that are in all electronics, the result is one of a far more transparent sound, less high frequency distortion, and more detail. This results in a bigger sound stage and a more natural, less hi-fi presentation. The maximum benefit of these platforms is realised when used in conjunction with the MXR or SXR frames but they are very beneficial when used on top of other high quality equipment supports or indeed as free-standing amplifier isolation supports.
All orders for M3 Isolation Bases are now being supplied in the new improved M3X version at no extra cost.
There are four sizes available from 19”x14” to 23”x21”. Prices from £1835.
Example:
M3X-1719 Isolation Base £2125
M3X-1921 Isolation Base £2410
The S1 Isolation Bases designed to go with the SXR frame system (see above). This offers a good proportion of the performance of the M3 Isolation Base but at significantly reduced cost.
S1-1719 Isolation Base £1595
S1-1921 Isolation Base £1640
We have samples of the new R1 Isolation Base in stock. Based on a wooden isolation surface surrounded by an aluminium outer frame, these offer a more affordable way of getting into the HRS isolation system.

Sound Enhancers and Modifiers
Decoupling devices for placing under equipment can be of great benefit if made from the correct materials and/or supply efficient energy paths to remove unwanted vibrations.
Having tried many over the years, we know that these devices are not all equal in their effect on sound. All will make a difference to the sound of the equipment but some can make a bad difference. We recommend below the ones that we have found produce sonic improvements in a natural way.
Acustica Applicata

Diffusion Absorption Acoustic Devices (DaaD)
Most rooms suffer from too much bass and when this is excessive it can reduce transparency right across the frequency bandwidth and causes smearing of the imaging. This Italian manufacturer makes tubular pieces called Diffusion Absorption Acoustic Devices, DaaD, that absorb and remove excessive levels of bass energy. They also have a side that diffuses sound and when placed at strategic reflection points in rooms can have a remarkable effect on the size of the sound-stage and on the focus of images. Generally they are first placed in the corners of the listening room; the first set behind the loudspeakers and a second set, if possible, behind the listening position. The effect on “cleaning up” the sound-stage is very obvious and extremely beneficial. Then the DaaDs are rotated whilst listening carefully with a favourite recording to give the best focus of imaging.
There are three types of DaaD; all are 1.1m tall and each type has a different diameter which absorbs to different low frequency points. It is recommended to have two pieces in each corner with the DAAD unit on the top being of a narrow diameter than the lower one. In most of the UK rooms we have applied these to, it is usually a DAAD 3 on top of a DAAD 4 in each corner that produces the best results. Most customers start with a set such as these in each of the two corners behind the loudspeakers. An additional DaaD at the centre of the wall behind the speakers will further enhance the effect these powerful devices have on the sound stage. It is not always possible to site this central unit due to audio furniture or a window at such a position but it well worth making the effort to include a DaaD at this central position because of the effect it has on the sound.
We have trial samples available for home evaluations. Certain conditions apply, please phone for details.

Ceramic Ball Interface
These finely engineered products are based on an accurate sphere of hard ceramic encased in stainless steel or aluminium. They allow unwanted resonances in the audio equipment to be very quickly drained away to ground. Placed under equipment or stands, they improve the low-level resolution of detail with increased focus and separation of images. The exact opposite thinking to spikes or cones, which can concentrated unwanted energy.
There are new additions to the Cerabase family of support feet. This widens their applications and will suit a variety of differing weight requirements. Please phone for advice on the correct version for your system.
A home trial on any of the Cera-products is strongly recommended.

Resonator
This is a new product from this well known manufacturer based on their principle of sympathetic resonators removing unwanted vibrations from a piece of electronics. (They have a similar idea built into the frames of their Master Reference stands where they are like little tuning forks). Vibrations in the chassis are usually created by the transformer and airborne transmission of the music being played in the room. These create noise within the circuit boards and are heard as distortions. You do not realise you are listening to these distortions until you remove them. There is then a more transparent, more natural sound with improved detail and sound-staging. The end result is similar to that using the HRS Damping Plates (see description below) but uses a different principle to control resonances.
Trial samples are available for home evaluation.

Chassis Noise Reduction
This system consists of two parts; the Nimbus couplers (HRS proprietary polymer) and the Nimbus spacer, and the Damping Plates.
Two Nimbus Couplers and a Spacer amount to a footer to be placed under the chassis of a piece of electronic audio equipment. Clearly a minimum of 3 footers is needed and are placed in intimate contact with the bottom surface avoiding the existing feet and any bolts, etc. This absorbs vibration and noise created by the transformers and any structure borne vibration coming through the support system via acoustic feedback. These unwanted resonances create noise within the circuit boards and are heard as distortions. You do not realise you are listening to these distortions until you remove them. The effect on the sound of the equipment is immediately apparent. As with the Isolation Bases described above, the result is one of a far more transparent sound, less high frequency distortion, and more detail. This results in a bigger sound stage and a more natural, less hi-fi presentation. Four, or even five if you can managed them, gives further improvement to the sound quality.
These footers work incredibly well under turntables too.
The Damping Plates are to be placed on the top plate of a piece of electronic equipment. This damps and absorbs unwanted vibrations created in the equipment from airborne vibration generated by playing music that exites the room. Even at modest volume levels, this feedback loop is there. A quick trial with these damping plates produces remarkable audible improvements to the sound. There are 3 sizes available which will work with almost any size of product. One Damping Plate will produce a good result but up to three pieces (if the area is big enough) will give further improvements.
The best results are obtained if you can “sandwich” your equipment with Nimbus Coupler/Spacers and the Damping Plates. Once heard you will not be able to listen to your system without them. Do not forget to try with separate power supplies; this is usually where the transformer and associated circuit boards reside.
We have trial samples for home evaluation purposes. Please call for details.

We have known for some time from our own experiments and customer feedback that there are additional sonic benefits to be had by doubling up the Damping Plates on top chassis of electronic components. HRS are a obviously aware of this and have now developed a DPX Damping Plate which has more than twice the thickness of aircraft grade aluminium. This is more than twice the mass and many more times the stiffness of the standard DP MkII plates.
