A very high quality loudspeaker from this well known amplifier manufacturer. An exceptionally transparent soundstage that has precise imaging and a notable coherence right across the frequency range. The layered, 3-dimensional soundstage is comparable to speakers costing much more. The tweeter extends the frequency response up to 60 KHz; no need for additional, ugly super tweeters! The cabinet work and build quality is of the highest order and would enhance any domestic environment. The curved sides and remarkable internal bracing removes colourations. The richness of the rosewood or maple veneers is greatly enhanced by 11 layers of hand finished lacquer. Bird's Eye Maple or Rosewood veneers.

We now have on demonstration the L7. Whilst being only some 13cm taller and includes another driver, there is a world of difference in the sound over the L5. The mid-range driver is direct coupled and covers a wide range of frequencies. There are other changes to the cross-over network resulting in improved transparency and hence detail. Speed, timing and dynamics are all improved over an already good, coherent speaker in the L5.

At last we have heard an omni-directional design that truly images and creates a believable sound-stage. A unique design with a very high standard of cabinet finish which produces a superb high quality sound. Very transparent and very holographic; we would put these up against any of the recognised leaders of speaker manufacturers in the world. Apart from the fact they very much need to have free space around them, they are room friendly and easy to drive. This new British company has quickly built up a reputation for producing amazingly accurate sounding speakers at very affordable prices. Concentrating on only two drivers per cabinet, they have very accurate phase control and transient presentation. The tweeter is housed in an open baffle enclosure and so has similar imaging properties to more expensive electrostatics. Slim, modern appearance with a choice of fabric colours.

Opera have been making fine loudspeakers for many years. Their new Linea Classica range has radically redesigned cabinets with curved sided to minimise internal standing wave problems. The result is a cleaner, more accurate sound. Transparency has improved and low frequency performance enhanced due to lower cabinet colouration. The cabinet are constructed from thick sections of MDF with beautiful veneers of mahogany or cherry on the sides; the curved tops are covered in leather. The appearance is a very elegant look that is typical of great Italian interior design. As ever, high quality sound at affordable prices.

This Danish loudspeaker manufacturer makes probably the finest, most natural sounding speakers we have heard.

Their loudspeakers are capable of producing very large soundstages with very accurate imaging and a high level of transparency. Already world renown for producing high end reference products, we are pleased to present the new Princess Floorstander (pictured). It has a slim cabinet occupying only 21 x 32cm on the floor. A two way design with an extremely linear response but with a bass and high frequency extension that you would normally expect from larger speaker. The extensively damped cabinets, each one weighing 42kg, are available in 3 solid wood finishes, ash, rosewood and walnut, and piano black. All speakers are finished front and back with real leather trim. When partnered with ancillary equipment of commensurate quality, it is a revelation to experience such a large and transparent sound from a small speaker.

These very slim speakers produce an astonishingly good sound for their price. A very 3-dimensional soundstage and a full sound for their size. Being very musical, they deserve to be heard with well balanced components.

We now have the new flagship speaker called the Explorer. This a superb loudspeaker from this remarkable manufacturer. Big, open sound with superb controlled bass. Incredible value at £2495.

The new Ranger has just arrived. Styled very attractively, it is like a larger version of the SA 1750 but with an improved driver compliment. An early audition is strongly recommended.

This US company has been making speakers since 1969 which have always gained exemplary reviews worldwide. Extremely coherent soundstage, due to their own dual concentric tweeter/mid design and time aligned front baffle. A very natural tonal balance producing a deep, layered soundstage. Velodyne have enjoyed a reputation for making the fastest, compact active subwoofer worldwide. We are generally not in favour of the sound of most subs we have heard, but these products truly live up to their reputation largely due to the very low distortion their designs have. The most exiting products in their range are their digital amplified designs which have room correcting abilities in the frequency range up to 100Hz. Most normal domestic rooms usually suffer from too much bass in this region due to the dimensions of the room. By digitally correcting for these anomalies, bass becomes cleaner and deeper with less exaggeration. This also greatly affects the transparency of the rest of the frequency range of the main speakers resulting in better detail and soundstages. One word of caution from our experience, the digital correction is best done from the lowest frequencies possible in the room. Normally this is below 80Hz. Digital correction at higher frequencies, or indeed across the entire frequency range, results in a much poorer sound. It becomes less natural and compresses the soundstage.

We now have on demonstration the new smaller SPL range of subwoofers which offer a limited but very effective room correction facility at remarkably low prices.
