Avalon Transcendent

We first heard this speaker last September at the National Audio Show in the Audiofreaks presentation and thought it to be a significant part of the exceptional sound of what was probably the best achieved at that Show. We are now pleased to announce we have pair ourselves and they are producing the same marvelous sound in our demonstration facilities with a variety of electronics commensurate with the quality of this loudspeaker. The sound is typical of Avalon Acoustics but what is extraordinary is the level of transparency, the precision of imaging and the very large sound-stage that would normally be expected from their more expensive models. The sound achieved from the Transcendent is way above the price point and is due to trickle-down technology from the Time and Isis. This level of sonic performance would be exceptional by any manufacturer's standard but to achieve this level of sound quality, at this price, is a major achievement from Avalon Acoustics. An additional bonus is that, being a relatively compact design, they work well in medium sized listening rooms.

Nagra 300 amplifiers

Nagra BPS battery powered phono stage

We are now privileged to be able to present the new 300 series of amplifiers from Nagra based on the 300B valve. Using an unusually compact design and highly developed transformer and power supply, the sound is, as you would expect from Nagra, remarkable. It is much more neutral in tonal balance, less euphonic, than all other 300B designs we have heard and has a level of transparency that is of the highest order. This is achieved right across the frequency range in a very linear manner, not always the case with other 300B designs. Two JJ 300B tubes per channel result in 20 watts output; this will drive speakers of 88-90dB efficiency or higher. The multi-tapped transformer can accommodate speaker loads from 4 to 16 ohms. There are two versions available, the stereo amplifier, 300p, and the integrated amplifier, 300i. The latter has the solid state pre-amplifier section used in their CDC version of their CD player. Being a true active design this pre-amplifier is of a high level and commensurate with the sound quality of the 300p amplifier.

conrad-johnson

ET-3

We are now demonstrating the new LP66S Series 2 power amplifier with upgraded components which brings the sound performance up to the level of the superlative new ET-3 SE valve pre-amplifier. This pre-power combination from conrad-johnson is capable of driving a wide range of loudspeakers with ease and creates a fast, more dynamic sound than many valve amplifier. The large sound-stage and the natural tonal balance that conrad-johnson are known, and well respected, for are still there. This amplification offers a level of performance close to that of their reference products but at a fraction of the price.
