The Audio Consultants is a totally independent consultancy in fine audio products. We major on sound quality not just the hardware – the most natural and highest level you can achieve at various price points.

Demonstrations are arranged by appointment only. We also offer consultations by phone or email to focus on our client's priorities and ultimate goals. Home evaluation auditioning is also available. 

We are particularly focussed on 2-channel stereo systems for high quality music reproduction. With over 25 years experience in synergising audio systems our clients can be confident in selecting an audio system that will give a natural presentation which can be listened to over long periods without fatigue.

Our systems are designed to present music in the most natural way, never bright or forward. The sound we prefer is layering from the speakers rearwards, creating deep soundstages. The holographic soundstage is both wide and deep, with a good impression of respective heights. The scale and size of the instruments/voices should never be exaggerated and must be in proportion to each other. In this way the soundstage emulates the concert hall experience. 

Our portfolio of products is carefully curated, selected after extensive listening tests. Every electronic component, signal cable, power distribution item, connector style, support and noise reduction product is auditioned carefully by our team before committing to a brand or component. They are judged on sound quality first as well as value for money.

Timbre and tonal balance should be natural. This can only be judged accurately with recordings using unamplified instruments, and with as little artifice added in post production. This results in less of a "hifi" sound which can seem "unimpressive" but provides long term listening pleasure without fatigue, whatever the genre of music played. Air and space within the soundstage are also important for creating a more sophisticated and elegant sound.

We are firmly convinced that physical formats, vinyl discs and CDs, offer a better sound quality than digital files, music files ripped to hard drive, or high res downloads. Streaming from subscription services are severely limited in terms of holography, fine nuances and detail, no matter the claims made. This is easily demonstrated with careful auditioning comparisons. Whilst we embrace some streaming products and recognise these have useful benefits in terms of convenience, sampling new music, creating playlists, secondary casual listening, we still recommend physical format sources for prime listening through high quality audio systems. 

We specialise in noise reduction systems. Chassis noise, structural and airborne feedback loops, or mains borne sources of noise can be severely reduced or eliminated with our carefully chosen products designed for the purpose. 

Room acoustics

We also specialise in room acoustics control that have a negative impact on articulation and the focus of the soundstage of an audio system. These are based on bass frequency traps that work on eliminating and controlling excess energy concentrating along walls and in corners, as well as the reflections at crucial points in the room. 

Vinyl set-up

A service is available for setting up and tuning vinyl replay components to optimise the performance of turntables, tone arms and cartridges.
